Sew...What's Up?

Sorry I can't help myself with the puns!

Sew...it all started yesterday. I went shopping at a store called Clothing Warehouse. I had conceded to the idea that the scavenger hunt that is vintage shopping was going to be a bust that day. But right before I was about to leave, I found this dress. It was "The One." You know, like, the chosen one. Perfect fit, awesome style, adorable pattern...only problem was a huge 6 inch tear in the waistline. They were so nice they gave me a 30% discount on the dress! So I bought it!

Well today I started to think about how many things had piled up that I needed to fix ever since my old sewing machine broke, so I went out and got myself one of these new fangled contraptions. The newest sewing machine I've used was made in the 70s-80s, so I was like, nothing fancy, nothing digital...just simple. As a Singer fan, I must say that so far, this Brother machine is fantastic. I am blown away by the automatic threader and small blade on the front that cuts the thread eliminating the scrambling around for scissors. (Doesn't take much to impress me does it? lol) And threading it is so easy I was sitting there going..."Did I miss something"?

 

Anyway, needless to say, I ended up sewing some curtains and fixing my dress all in just a few hours (as well as rearranging the furniture in my entire house...but we'll get to that some other time).

And in conclusion...playing around with the camera, I really liked the way this photo below turned out, sooo...new profile picture yay! 0:)

Rings and Things

Just a random collage of things this time. The top picture is a pair of rings I bought recently. I loved the style of the camera—couldn't resist that one. The one on the right is actually made by a local artist with recycled paper of some sort. I also bought one made from a recycled license plate which I'll have to post that another time! Below are two pairs of shoes I bought recently. They have a vintage flair and are very dainty, which I love. Finally at the bottom is another outfit I put together today. The top and jacket are from Forever21 and the jeans are from Rainbows. 

 

Sew Much Fun

This past week I decided to start a new sewing project. The outfit consists of a shirt, skirt, and shorts set, but I decided to make them into three separate pieces. This (Simplicity) pattern didn't have a date on it, but judging from the look of it, it seems to be a little newer than the 40s dress I did; I'm guessing it was from the 50s. The shorts were actually the easiest thing to make so far and are so comfortable I've worn them almost every day since I've made them :P The opening is held together by snaps except for the top which is a hook and I added this awesome button that my granny gave me to decoration. (I still have a little fixing up to do with that corner, but I wanted to show the button so excuse the messiness of my sewing.)

These pictures are taken in my Granny's back yard. She had a little storage shed made and decorated it to look like a small house; it's so cute. The sign that says Florence Nicholas on it is her actual beauty parlor sign from when she lived up in Pennsylvania! It was made back in the day when they used to hand paint signs and it is an amazing work of craftsmanship.

This is the skirt that I made. I love the big pockets and all the gathering. I'm still practicing my button hole stitching, so currently it's being held up by safety pins, but I wanted to show it nonetheless.

I really wanted to show the shirt also, but unfortunately I started to get eaten alive by mosquitos again by this point, so it will have to wait. I still have the buttons to go on that one too. Anyway, that's all I have for today!

Seeing Spots

Hello everyone! Sorry it's been awhile since I've posted. I've been settling in to my grandma's house in Florida and didn't have a camera until John came to visit me today. I stopped by Sydney's Vintage Clothing before leaving Auburn and bought my first crinoline skirt! Since I don't really have any clothing that matches its bright pink color, I'm planning on knitting a cardigan to match, so we'll see how that goes. (It's been awhile since I've knitted anything.)

Also, my granny and I have been working on a 1944 dress pattern. I used a red and white striped material. And I didn't exactly choose the simplest one to start with either. Ruffles and buttons and gatherings oh my! I will post some pictures of our progress tomorrow :D

Knee Deep in Adventure

Sorry it's been so long since I've posted! I took a vacation to see my family and one from my computer & internet too. Then when I got back I couldn't find the camera! But my fiance came in to visit and brought his Canon T2i, which is amazing. And yesterday gave us the perfect opportunity to use it, as the two of us took the train into the city. Below are some pictures we took while in the city, including our lunch at P.F. Changs, train ride, and my vintage finds. The vintage stores were absolutely amazing. We visited Knee Deep Vintage and Pilsen Vintage. I bought two dresses—one from each. I would have bought so much more if John had not been there to restrain me. It's probably a good thing that I don't live closer to these stores!! Anyway, we had a great time; going into the city is always an adventure.
