You do have to be careful with older high chairs, since most of them do not meet the safety requirements for today, but it is possible to modify them so they meet the standards. For anyone who is interested, you can check those out here.

Vintage Wooden High Chair
I found this adorable 1940s-50s high chair in the thrift store the other day for about $15, and I couldn't believe it! I've seen similar ones online going for $200+, so I had to get it.

Lost and Finds
I had a this weekend to myself, and since I hadn't been to an estate sale in awhile, I wrote down a few addresses and spent Saturday morning driving around. As usual, some were duds and some were absolute treasure chests.
One house was full of vintage children's toys, and if I had a kid, I would definitely use that to justify buying mountains of things for them. I tried to stick to my allotted budget though, so I limited myself to a set of alphabet blocks. I really appreciate them as a graphic designer too, because the illustrations are great.
Something I've been wanting for a long time is a record player. After doing some research, I've found that this is called a General Electric Wildcat, and was produced some time from the late 60s to early 70s. All it needs is a new needle, so I'm trying to figure out which one I need. Does anyone know much about record players? The woman putting on the sale also threw in this set of records, including some of my favorite musical songs from "The King and I", "Sound of Music", "Hello Dolly", and "West Side Story!"
This other great find was a typewriter in perfect condition! I've never used one before, and I'm really excited :P If anyone is familiar with typewriters too, I'd love to hear any advice you have. All I know so far is that it uses a ribbon to apply the ink. Are those still sold so when I need I can replace it?

The find from this picture is the big green box in the middle. It is absolutely full of old Betty Crocker recipes. It's got so many recipes, it's heavy! lol. I will have to try some soon and post if I find anything good!

In Estate of Happiness
Yesterday I went to my first estate sale in Atlanta, and it was a very rewarding one! I got a whole armful of things for less than $15!
The biggest find was this green fleece heating blanket. I definitely needed one of those because—as I'm sure you know—old houses are drafty...and baby, its still cold outside! On top of that, I'm sleeping on a air mattress (which, if you have never slept on one before, likes to suck in and retain every bit of cold no matter what temperature the house is). So, needless to say, I needed something warm.
I also found a small stuffed pillow. I have had this cool vintage fabric for awhile now and had recently decided I wanted to make a pillow case out of it cause it goes well with my bed sheets. I will post a picture when it's done!
Next are the two rubbermaid pitchers. I don't think I'll be able to have enough of these. (only 50 cents each...I couldn't pass them up anyway...)
I loved the style of this little compact radio, and it even has a working battery, so I'm listening to it even as I type! Next to that is a timer so that you can set your lamps to turn on/off at a certain hour. Really useful.
And finally, in front is a wooden yardstick and a colorful doormat.
Anyone else found anything interesting lately?

Show & Tell
My granny's neighbor is moving from her house to an apartment and left us a box of things to either sort through or give away. Looking through it, I found some really great treasures that I'm going to hold on to...
These roller were on my list to go out and buy, but I hadn't gotten around to it yet. They are going to make it a lot less painful to sleep through the night. :p And I love the way they snap together to hold in place.
I love how bold and simple this canister set is.
My granny has a set of these dishes by Corell too. I love the color and little graphic icons around the edge.
Just a cute candy jar to fill with colorful things such as gumballs or jelly beans :)
I have always wanted one of these. This one is in pretty much perfect condition and it is so cute! Ahh! I can't wait to start using it in my kitchen!

Fleas and Markets
So. Today my friend Annie and I ventured to a flea market called Swap-O-Rama in Alsip, IL. I feel dumb since I brought my camera and my cell phone and yet have pretty much nothing to show of the actual adventure. But we do plan on going to another Flea Market soon (one with more vintage pieces as well), and I will be sure to take some pictures then. This was actually my first time at a Flea Market, and I really enjoyed it. For the most part, this particular one had mostly items you could find at stores just at cheaper prices. There was one stand in particular though that caught my eye. It had some old trunks, vintage wall art, and radios. I couldn't help but purchase this amazing aqua and chrome radio (pictures below). There's also a few other things I purchased as well, including two beanie babies I had always wanted (they will be collectible again one day, when they're vintage! lol), and some religious wooden bracelets. Also, I included a picture of my outfit and this amazing travel bag that I found at a thrift store awhile back, which I brought in case I found anything worth buying—and I'm glad I did!

Thrift Store Finds
It was my day off, so naturally (lol) I decided to go thrift store shopping. My biggest / best purchase was an amazing teal armchair with wooden feet for only $30! There's one little corner of my room that needed something, and so I've been looking for a nice armchair, lamp, and bookcase so that I can turn it into a reading nook. Anyway, here it is as well as some other things I've found. I'm buying mostly accessories because I'm hoping soon to learn to sew some things of my own. I'll be visiting my Granny who is an expert in both sewing and vintage patterns ;) so I can't wait to see her and ask if she'll impart some of her wisdom to me!

Thrift Store Finds
So today I stopped by some thrift stores and found a bunch of things I thought I would share. I'm really excited about putting together outfits from some of the clothes I found.
One thing I always look for is wooden hangers—I hope to eventually convert my whole closet and not have to use ugly plastic ones anymore :P I thought the Santa pin was adorable—I'm only sad I have to wait to Christmas to wear it. The earrings are pretty clever, since it seems as though they were handmade by attaching an earring piece to a sofa button! (plus, I really like the pattern). And finally, I had been on the lookout for some plastic bracelets; I was inspired by Solanah on her Vixen Vintage blog. They add some color and a playful modern flair to a vintage look.
